Policies

Reviews, replies and removal.

Share a genuine experience and make its context clear. The same checks apply to positive, mixed and negative feedback.

Who can leave a review

You do not need to have had lessons or booked through MyTeacherFinder. You can describe your own enquiry, communication, lesson arrangements or tuition with the teacher. Say which experience you are reviewing. A parent or guardian can review their own experience arranging a child’s tuition. Reviews based only on someone else’s story are not accepted.

Submitting a review

Choose a rating from 1 to 5, write in your own words and confirm your email before submitting for checking. Your chosen display name and approved feedback are public; your email and private evidence are not. Confirming an email or recording an introduction does not prove a lesson took place.

What we check

We consider the connection to the teacher, the stated experience, privacy, possible duplicates and signs of fabrication. We may ask for proportionate evidence where something is disputed or unclear. Checks apply equally to favourable and critical reviews. A genuine, relevant and lawful review is not held back simply because it is negative.

Imported feedback and testimonials

Imported feedback must be genuinely present in the supplied source, concern the right teacher and be permitted for its intended use. Keep its wording, author attribution and date as found; missing details must not be invented. Teacher website testimonials are labelled as teacher-selected because they may not represent all feedback. Public visibility alone does not grant permission to copy.

Ratings and text-only feedback

We retain original ratings given out of 5. Where imported feedback has no rating, AI may propose a score from its wording; it is labelled AI-assessed score and checked before publication. It is not presented as a rating chosen by the author. Ambiguous feedback stays unscored. Eligible published scores have equal weight in the combined average; duplicates, source headline averages and unapproved reviews are excluded. How ratings work gives the full calculation.

No scored reviews

Average is a neutral label for a profile without eligible scored feedback. It does not assign the teacher 3 out of 5, provide a teaching assessment or count towards any calculation.

Fake reviews and incentives

We do not accept fabricated reviews, impersonation, reviews written by a teacher about their own business, or reviews exchanged for money, gifts, discounts or other benefits. Do not arrange reviews to raise or lower a score, hide an incentive or threaten someone over their feedback. We may restrict accounts that repeatedly submit prohibited content.

One teacher reply

After claiming their profile, a teacher can submit one reply to each review for checking. There is no fee for replying or reporting. The reply must be relevant and professional, without private contact details, a child’s identity or threats. It cannot edit the review or change its score. Use the report route if a published reply needs a factual or privacy correction.

Reporting a concern

Use Report beside the review or contact us with its reference and the specific concern. Include relevant evidence privately. A report asks us to assess the content; it is different from leaving a review for publication or raising a service complaint. Reporting a review does not automatically hide it or lower its score.

When content may be restricted or removed

We act where content breaches this policy, must be removed by law, cannot lawfully be displayed, or is withdrawn by its author. Reasons include a fabricated experience, malicious false claims, impersonation, harassment, discriminatory abuse, threats, private or children’s identifying information, spam, irrelevant material and duplicate reviews. An urgent privacy or legal issue may need a temporary restriction while it is checked.

What is not a removal reason

A low score, strong but lawful criticism, a teacher’s disagreement, a resolved complaint or a commercial relationship is not enough. We do not sell removal or give teachers control over publication. We do not treat an intended public review as a private complaint to avoid publishing it.

Decisions, corrections and appeals

We record moderation decisions and consider relevant evidence from the author and teacher. Where a proportionate correction resolves an issue, we can ask the author to correct it without changing the meaning of their experience. Ask us to review a decision using the review or case reference and explain what was missed. Ordinary edits are checked while the approved version stays visible; valid restrictions and withdrawals take effect promptly.

Profiles and other content

Profile information must accurately describe the services offered. Do not invent qualifications, access arrangements, availability, prices, success rates or specialist training. Source and rights records remain private, required attribution stays visible, and expired permissions or valid source removals must be respected.

Keeping reviews useful

We review reported problems and the effectiveness of our checks, especially as imports grow. Review decisions and scores are independent of claiming a profile or paying an introduction fee. For a service complaint rather than a public review, use the contact page and explain what needs putting right.
