English tutors in Edinburgh
Choose between Scottish qualification study, everyday English and ESOL support.
For Higher English, practise the course tasks
Edinburgh College’s Sighthill Higher English route is a Scottish SCQF Level 6 qualification building on National 5. Its course page includes literary analysis, discussion, a portfolio and an exam. Share your current text and assessment task so a tutor can focus on close reading, essay structure or spoken analysis as needed.
ESOL is a separate learning route
The City of Edinburgh Council’s adult ESOL provision spans absolute beginner to upper intermediate and includes level assessment, with online and city-based options. If English is an additional language, explain where you need it most: conversation, forms, work, study or reading. Ask which level and setting fit your circumstances.
Questions about lessons
Is Higher English the same as ESOL in Edinburgh?
No. Edinburgh College describes Higher English as a Scottish qualification with literary study, a portfolio and an exam. The Council’s ESOL provision is a separate adult route with language-level assessment.
