Medway stages for babies, children and adults
Medway Sport Swim Academy follows Swim England Learn to Swim across Medway Park, Cozenton Park, Hoo and Strood. Council stages begin with parent-and-baby lessons from 0 to 18 months, then parent-and-toddler groups at 18 months to 2 years and 2 to 3 years. Preschool is 3 to 4, Stage 1 is for school-age beginners up to 7, junior beginners are 8 to 10, teen beginners start at 11, and adult beginner lessons are listed too. Ask which pool and current term timetable fit the learner; Medway runs different holiday timetables.
Parent duties during lessons and public swims
The youngest lessons are explicitly parent-and-child classes, so confirm how the adult takes part in the specific lesson. For separate general swimming, Medway requires a responsible person over 16 in the water at 1:1 for under-4s, or 1:2 when a qualifying buoyancy aid is used. Ages 4 to 7 need an over-16 adult in the water at 1:2, or up to 1:3 in a teaching pool or controlled area. Ages 8 to 10 need an adult in the facility, but not necessarily in the water; from 11, no accompaniment is required. These pool-entry rules are separate from a lesson’s own arrangements.
